An elephant sat in my room for 21 days.
He told me his name was Fred
I told all my friends.
His eyes glowed in the dark
I fed him ice-cream everyday
He made me feel safe
For 21 days.
But the nights grew cold
His skin soaked up the sun
and the colour
I could not see the clouds
Fred watched only me
And spoke his name
Over, and over, and over
Until I could not take my eyes off his
I waited,
Knowing his gaze would stray
Any second, any second soon
I waited for 21 days.
Then I blinked
And Fred was gone.
